VEGAS MYTHS RE-BUSTED: Vegas Vickie Originally Went by Sassy Sally

Welcome back to another entry of Vegas Myths Busted, Casino.org’s ongoing series dedicated to separating fact from fiction when it comes to Las Vegas’s most iconic legends and hidden lore. New entries publish every Monday, with bonus Flashback Friday deep dives into classic Vegas history dropping weekly as well. Today’s entry originally ran on April 22, 2024, and tackles a salacious, long-circulated rumor about one of Sin City’s most beloved neon fixtures: Vegas Vickie.

For years, a persistent rumor has spread across online forums, casual Vegas conversations, and pop culture references claiming that Vegas Vickie, the sassy neon counterpart to the famous cowboy figure Vegas Vic, spent her early career working as a stripper under the name Sassy Sally. Today, we’re putting that myth to bed for good.

Vegas Vickie first lit up the Las Vegas Strip in the 1950s, installed outside the Golden Nugget casino as a playful, glamorous counterpart to Vegas Vic, and has remained a beloved staple of Vegas neon history ever since. Our team dug into historical casino archives, neon preservation records, and decades of Las Vegas historical documentation to verify the claim, and found zero evidence to support the rumor that Vegas Vickie ever performed under the name Sassy Sally, or worked as a stripper at any point in her history. The claim appears to be a completely fabricated piece of Vegas lore that has been repeated so often over the years that many people have come to accept it as fact.

Tune in next Monday for another Vegas myth busted, and check back on Flashback Friday for a bonus deep dive into classic Las Vegas history.
